Fellow Story – Nishant Meshram

I am Nishant Meshram, originally from Sukli in the Nagpur district. I have done my masters in Social Work. I am a 2022-24 cohort fellow at Learning Companions. I am placed at ‘PAHAL Day Boarding Center, Vardhman Nagar’ (An initiative by UPAY). I teach a mixed-group class of children between 5-12 years.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote always inspires me. I always followed one principle in my life, “If a change is needed in any subaltern community then education is its Panacea.” My interest in the social sector probably comes from the society in which I grew up. While preparing for the competitive exams I moved to Pune. I had taken a long time to adjust to that atmosphere. At every stage of my life,  I realized that it is not possible to survive without an education, no matter from where you learn. From that point in my life, I began to explore education and social work. This journey started with the Learning Companions Fellowship and our partner organization Upay. Here, I got connected with the section of society where there was no one aware about education. I found this situation very frightening and decided to work with these kids from the footpath. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do what I love. In the future, I want to facilitate children in their learning journey and I also want to raise my own level of understanding and belief about education. I am very happy to be a part of this beautiful journey. I will always strive to work towards educational equality and be a good educational leader. For me, Learning Companions Fellowship is a holistic experience!
